Gastric Bypass

What is Gastric Bypass?

It is one of the surgical procedures used in the treatment of obesity. This procedure is performed by using a small part of the stomach and reorganising the intestines. Thanks to this procedure, some of the food eaten by the patient passes directly into the intestine and the patient aims to take less food and create a feeling of satiety.

How is Gastric Bypass Procedure Performed?

Gastric Bypass, like Sleeve Gastrectomy, is usually performed laparoscopically, that is, through a small incision and using special instruments. During the procedure, the stomach is turned into a small bag and a connection is created between a small part of the stomach and the intestines. In this way, some of the food the patient eats passes directly into the intestine and a feeling of satiety is created.

Who is Suitable for Gastric Bypass?

Gastric Bypass, just like Sleeve Gastrectomy, is recommended for patients with a body mass index of 40 and above or for patients with a BMI between 35-40 but with other obesity-related health problems.
